Hey Sharon, I have seen some services advertised for MUCH less.

I understand that you may have encountered various online design services, and I'd like to share my perspective. I began my eDesign journey with one of these services, providing me with valuable insights into how they operate. Many of these companies, initially driven by a great idea, faced challenges as they sought to increase traffic and attract investors.

To boost traffic, they often slashed service prices, consequently reducing designer fees. Additionally, these companies limited designers to specific vendors offering higher commissions, without sharing these benefits with the designers themselves. This led to increased pressure on designers, resulting in a decline in quality as many qualified professionals departed.

As an independent designer, I value the flexibility to source from vendors that align with your design and budget. I have access to both trade-only sources and traditional retail outlets. Unlike experiences with larger companies, I work at a pace that suits both of us. In my previous roles, there was often a rushed pace to complete designs within a tight timeframe, which wasn't ideal for my clients or me.

Choosing an independent designer specializing in online interior design ensures a personalized experience with all the advantages of working with a local designer. While the cost may be higher compared to larger companies, the age-old saying holds true: you get what you pay for. Invest in a designer who prioritizes your unique needs and offers a more tailored, high-quality experience.

How does eDesign Work?

The eDesign process closely mirrors traditional interior design, beginning with defining the project's scope. We discuss what we'll be designing and establish a budget—an essential step for creating a design that suits your needs. Understanding your preferences and the individuals using the spaces is crucial. I want to know the style that resonates with you and makes your heart flutter when you enter the room.

Here's where traditional design and eDesign diverge: you play the role of the design assistant. To kickstart the process, I'll need measurements and pictures of the spaces to be designed. Don't worry; I have a helpful guide to assist you. In the end, I'll provide sources and detailed instructions for you to bring the design to life.

While you won't experience the dramatic reveal often seen on television shows, you'll also avoid the hefty invoice that typically accompanies such services. The eDesign approach puts you in control of the implementation, allowing for a more budget-friendly yet personalized design experience.

Can you design any space?

While eDesign is a powerful tool for many design projects, it does come with some limitations, particularly for renovations involving construction. Unlike traditional in-person design, I won't be able to physically walk through your space to assess if a wall can be removed or if plumbing can be altered. Additionally, I cannot produce construction documents for building or renovation purposes.

However, I can offer valuable design guidance that serves as a starting point for conversations with your chosen contractors. My expertise extends to advising on finishes and cabinetry, though the final cabinet design will need to be completed with local tradespeople. It's important to note that in-person designs often undergo changes once contractors and structural engineers become involved, making collaborative decision-making crucial.

To facilitate communication with your contractor, I can provide detailed elevation drawings that serve as a valuable resource as you work together to finalize the design. While there are constraints, eDesign remains a highly effective approach for various design projects, ensuring you receive personalized guidance even within its scope.

What is a room?

Certainly, the concept of a "room" can vary based on the layout and design of a home. In a more traditional sense, a room is a distinct, enclosed space within a building designed for a specific purpose. However, in the context of open-concept homes, where multiple functions coexist in one space, each designated area or zone can be considered a "room."

For example, a living room and dining room sharing the same open space might be viewed as two distinct areas. In terms of pricing for design services, each of these functional zones is considered a "room." I structure my services based on these distinct spaces, with the understanding that open-concept layouts may involve multiple designated areas.

To ensure fairness and flexibility, I offer pricing per room while also providing discounts for multi-functional spaces. This allows us to tailor the pricing to your specific needs and create a mutually beneficial arrangement. Let's discuss your unique requirements so we can find a pricing structure that works for both of us
