Bye Bye Beige- Master Bathroom Renovation One room challenge Week 1

Hi All!
I am so excited to tackle the One Room Challenge this spring.

I am working on putting my master bathroom and bedroom back together at my lake house. You could say I had some serious motivation to get it redone- like 41 reasons- we had foundation work that needed to be done, yep 41 piers and luckily almost all (but sadly not all) were in the master bedroom and bathroom area. It just so happens to be the one area of the house we had done almost nothing to since we bought the house 3 years ago. When we purchased the home we knew it needed some help but loved so many things about the house and property we were willing to tackle them (although 41 piers was a bit more than we anticipated).

The house had been lovingly built as a retirement home for the couple we bought it from. Sadly the gentleman owner had suffered some serious health issues in the years before they sold and maintenance had suffered. The room was dated (and so very beige from the 90’s). It was beige on beige on beige with some pinkish pickled cabinets added to complete the look.

The most unique feature of our bathroom was this “garden window”.

This unique feature is a “garden window” the previous owner had installed. It does not actually look out to anything except the closet where there was a box installed to allow faux foliage and flowers to decorate it. It even has it’s own lighting! (I know you are all dying to know where I got my custom bath tray from but I cannot divulge all my trade secrets here!)

The boxed in back of the “garden window” in our closet.

I had my contractor head on over before the foundation work to do a complete demo of the space. This was going to make the foundation company work a bit easier and hopefully move the project along quicker. I naively thought we could jump in right after and start but the foundation people suggested waiting a month before we put anything back in.

And here is the concept board ……

Participating in the One Room Challenge sounds like great fun and a good motivator to push through and finish my space (I wish it was a motivator for my contractors!) I’m very excited to be joining this amazing community of designers and DIYer’s for another season. You can visit the One Room Challenge blog to see room transformations from all of the participants. I can’t wait to see how everyone’s plans turn out. Stay tuned next week for my post on design decisions and challenges as well as updates on working with the contractors and trades people!
